Medical bills on credit report?
In 2008, when I was 16, I passed out in the mall and was taken to a hospital. I didn't have insurance and the bill came to over $1,000. My parents never paid it. Now that I am 19, I'm interested in building credit. So, I took a look at my credit score and the medical bill is on it. I don't know a ton about credit, but I was a minor when it happened. Should this be on my credit report?
No it should not. As a minor at the time you can not be held responsible for this debt.
Go to the web sites for the 3 credit bureaus and dispute this account as being not of legal age. They have 30-days to verify the information as correct or must remove it.
Good luck.
No.
You can file a dispute with the credit agency to have it removed. Make sure you tell them you were a minor and not responsible for the bill.
There are 3 different agencies – Experian, Equifax, and Transunion. You will need to check each of these for the problem. If it exists on that report, you will have to dispute it with that agency.
On the credit report, there be a reference number. Jot it down then call Trans Union Customer Serv toll free @ 1-800-916-8800, type in the reference number and that should transfer you to a live rep. Just explain that you were a minor (under 18) and that it shouldn't be on the credit report.
